Instant Attitude Adjustment

A few people has asked me what my instant attitude adjustment technique is that I use with me kids.

I know this is not really necessarily NLP Secret stuff – but it is closely related.

Let me frame the scenario. My one son in particular gets a bad attitude whenever things don’t go his way. Like if he is playing baseball and doesn’t get a hit or playing hockey and he gets scored on a few times.

Now I know my son pretty good – and I can read his body language pretty good as well. I can tell how he is feeling (by the way this is a huge part of the NLP Secret).

So when I get a chance, I pull him to the side and ask him “who are you being?”.

He then realizes he does not have a great attitude and usually takes conscious effort to change it.

Now let me step back a bit farther in time. I set this up with him where I explain you are either a champion or a non-champion (basically a loser).  You can only be one at a time.

And I ask him in plain out … how does a champion act? How does he carry himself? Does he win  everytime? Does he get scored one sometimes? Does he strike out sometimes? Does he uplift people and make his team mates better … etc. You get the idea.

I let him tell me what a champion is like.

Then when I ask him who he is being … he knows he has the attitude of a non-champion and he takes steps to immediately change his attitude.

It works. The key is being aware. Sometimes we need a little reminder of who we want to be.

Try it yourself.

Of course the NLP Secret works a tad better than this as it changes the behavior to stick.
